To help myself get back on track, I was thinking of talking about a game mechanic that has become a bit more popular thanks to Breath of the Wild... cooking. Basically if you have a nine to five job you gotta eat. Also as much as the main character would love to eat greasy food from the fast food restaurant they work in, it is not the best thing for them. So I thought that waaaaayyyy down the line when the main game loop is cleaner, that I would incorporate cooking, ingredients and food as a way to spend the money that is earned. The food that is purchased and prepared by your character might allow you to benefit from a buff or two during your next shift or next couple of shifts. Maybe it is just more expensive food that you by from another shop or maybe it will be an actual cooking mechanic but either way it is something that I was thinking about eventually.
